MSPO 2025 – Contracts, New Technologies and International Cooperation

This year’s edition of the International Defence Industry Exhibition (MSPO) in Kielce once again confirmed its status as a key event in Central Europe for the security and defence sector. During MSPO 2025, multi-billion contracts were signed, new industrial solutions were presented, and international cooperation was initiated, setting the course for the development of the Polish Armed Forces.

Modern Fire Systems from Tarnów

Zakłady Mechaniczne Tarnów showcased a 30 mm gun system designed to counter a wide range of threats, from drones and cruise missiles to light armoured vehicles. The system can operate autonomously or as part of a broader fire control network linking various weapon modules and observation sensors. Tarnów’s offer also included weapon stations in calibres 12.7 mm, 23 mm, and 40 mm, highlighting a modular approach tailored to the needs of specific units. The presentation attracted significant interest from military delegations, for whom flexibility and interoperability are becoming key requirements.

Fincantieri and PGZ Cooperation in the Naval Sector

At the exhibition, a cooperation agreement in the naval sector was announced between Italian company Fincantieri and Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa (PGZ). The document outlines joint efforts for the modernization of the Polish Navy, with particular emphasis on the acquisition of submarines under the “Orka” programme. The agreement covers the design, construction, and comprehensive life-cycle support of naval vessels. It also opens opportunities for joint ventures in international markets, expanding the growth potential of the Polish defence industry.

Trophy APS for K2 and K2PL Tanks

Rafael Advanced Defense Systems and Hyundai Rotem signed an agreement to integrate the Trophy active protection system with K2 tanks, including the Polish K2PL version. The cooperation covers production, marketing, and localization of system components in various countries, improving spare parts availability and facilitating maintenance. Trophy is a proven technology that significantly enhances vehicle survivability on the modern battlefield. Its use in Polish K2PL tanks could strengthen national defence capabilities while also boosting the export attractiveness of this platform.

Six Modernization Contracts by the Armament Agency

A major highlight of MSPO was the signing of six modernization contracts by the Armament Agency, with a total value of PLN 1.585 billion. The largest contract involves the modernization of NUR-12ME and NUR-12M radars, which will be upgraded with new transmitter-receiver technologies and advanced signal processing methods. Once completed, the systems will be able to detect and classify a wide spectrum of aerial targets, including unmanned aerial vehicles and hovering helicopters. The modernization is scheduled for completion by the mid-2030s.

Another agreement covers the delivery of GBU-39/B Small Diameter Bombs for F-35 aircraft, significantly increasing strike precision and effectiveness. Complementing the package are two SAF operational container sets, intended to support F-35 operations on dispersed road landing strips, enhancing the system’s mobility and flexibility.

The Agency also contracted five MU-90 training torpedoes with a logistics package, designed for the training of frigate and helicopter crews. The procurement of over 600 MPB-ZN side anti-ship mines equipped with modern fuzes marks a significant reinforcement of the engineering corps’ capabilities. The sixth contract involves the delivery of TNT and other explosives, which are crucial for both operational and training needs.

MSPO 2025 highlighted the scale of transformation within Poland’s defence system. The presentation of new technologies, the signing of contracts, and cooperation agreements confirmed that Poland is investing not only in direct combat capabilities but also in the infrastructure supporting modern combat platforms. Long-term modernization programmes and international cooperation show that the Polish defence industry is increasingly embedded in the global supply chain and is becoming a relevant partner in Europe’s security landscape.
